Day 2: Aust A Team, Irvine TYR Pro Champs
IT was another stellar day for the Australia A Team with a medal claimed in every race our swimmers contested.
Day 2 of the TYR Summer Championships in Irvine, California, featured the 400m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, and 4x100m freestyle relays. Australia had finalists in every A final except the men’s 4x100m relay – and made their presence count with five golds, two silvers and a bronze.
Gold Coast-based swimmers Sienna Harben (Griffith) and Josh Collett (Bond) picked up their first gold medals of the four-day meet in the 200m breaststroke. Harben dominated her final, cruising to victory in 2:28.26 – nearly three seconds clear of Gabrielle Rose (2:30.83). Meanwhile in the men’s, Collett had a close finish with a winning time of 2:10.02 just in front of Jassen Yep’s 2:10.39.
Paris Olympian and Collett’s Bond clubmate Ben Armbruster powered to gold in the men’s 100m butterfly, clocking a 50.91 ahead of Aiden Hayes (51.24) and Trenton Julian (51.38).
Molly Walker upgraded her silver from the 1500m with a personal best of 4:07.22 to take gold in the 400m freestyle. Tiana Kritzinger finished 6th overall, while Amelia Weber swam a solid race to win the B Final.
