Locked and loaded: 2032 Games Infrastructure Funding Deal Confirmed

AUSTRALIA’S aquatic sports welcome today’s announcement that the Australian and Queensland Governments have reached a new funding agreement to deliver Brisbane 2032 Games venues, including the National Aquatic Centre.

The National Aquatics Centre was committed as part of the Queensland Government’s 2032 Games Delivery Plan in March and will see Centenary Pool in Spring Hill upgraded and complemented by a new world leading aquatics venue that will act as a national base for Australia’s four aquatic sports – Swimming Australia, Diving Australia, Water Polo Australia and Artistic Swimming Australia.

The development of a new National Aquatics Centre will unlock significant benefits for Australia’s aquatic sports and the community, by creating a venue capable of attracting major aquatics events and an environment for daily high-performance training alongside community access.

Today’s announcement refines an earlier funding agreement between the two Governments and adds the National Aquatics Centre as an important legacy facility that will support future generations and one of 17 new and upgraded venues across Queensland for the 2032 Games.

Australia’s aquatic sports extend their thanks to Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, and Federal Minister for Communications and Minister Sport, Anika Wells, for working with the Queensland Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie, and Queensland Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tim Mander, to achieve this important agreement.
