SWIMMERS’ SIX PACK
The oldest of the Kreutzberger family racing at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Oscar (18) is paving the way for his brothers Archie (16) and Lewis (14). Travelling up from North Albury, Kreutzberger won silver in sensational fashion when he tied second with Felix Dressel-De Bruyn in the boys’ 18-year 200m breaststroke. He also secured bronze in the 200m individual medley. Is chasing more medals in the boys’ 18-year 400m IM and 100m butterfly.
Grayson Doig | Trinity Grammar, NSW
Carving almost five seconds off his heat time, Trinity Grammar’s Grayson Doig claimed the boys’ 17 years 200m individual medley making it the fourth consecutive year of owning this event in his age group. Today he will contest the 400 IM event and is a hot contender for gold after his winning performances at the 2024 Oceania Championships in the 200 and 400 individual medleys.
Thomas Sutherland | Caulfield Aquatics, VIC
Putting his ‘breast’stroke forward, Thomas Sutherland is fast tracked to a second gold after taking out 100m breaststroke gold. The Caulfield Aquatics swimmer trains under two-time Olympian Kenrick Monk and boasts the fastest seed time of the Australian 17-year-old boys in the 50m breaststroke. In the boys’ 17-year 200m backstroke Sutherland won silver by an eyelash from SOPAC’s Ned Cane (2:19.55).
Roxanne Albertyn | Miami, QLD
Roxanne Albertyn’s stacked program of eight individual events plus relays is paying dividends with the Miami swimmer already claiming two national titles. Albertyn took out the gold in the girls’ 13-years 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke and helped drive Queensland to gold in the 4x50m freestyle 13/14y girls’ relay. With the fastest seed time in today’s 50m freestyle, this teen sprinting machine is one to watch out for.
Ciara Jeffs | Yarra Plenty Waves, VIC
Ciara Jeffs has had a rock star start to these nationals with gold in the girls’ 14-years 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly plus a silver in the 100m freestyle. Jeffs just missed out on a medal position in the 400m freestyle by 0.06 seconds but the Victorian swimmer is looking the goods for the 200m as the fastest entrant. She also has the 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 200 IM left to contest on her program.
Heidi Shumack | SOPAC, NSW
One of the few athletes to have already put a down payment for the World Junior Championships, Heidi Shumack is flying high with two golds and a qualifying time this meet. The gun medley swimmer won the girls’ 15 years 200 individual medley with a qualifying time of 2:14.41. Shumack also won gold in the 50m butterfly but fell short of a medal in the 200m breaststroke by 0.97th of a second. Still to come is the girls’ 15 years 100m and 200m fly, 400 IM and 200 backstroke for Shumack.
