The Night Session: The Final Finals

The Dolphins final night in Paris La Défense Arena was a memorable one, as Australia’s swimming success continued through to the end.

Australian powerhouse swimmer Meg Harris won silver in the Women’s 50m Freestyle final with a personal best time of 23.97.

Fellow Dolphin Shayna Jack competed alongside Harris in the same event, giving it her all and placing 8th with a time of 24.39.

Australia’s Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay team gave it a red-hot crack, placing 6th in the finals.

The team – consisting of Isaac Cooper, Joshua Yong, Matthew Temple, and Kyle Chalmers – received a time of 3:31.86.

The Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay team podiumed in the finals, winning another silver medal for Australia.

The team, consisting of swimming legends Kaylee McKeown, Jenna Strauch, Emma McKeon, and Mollie O’Callaghan, received a time of 3:53.11.

The Olympians were just three seconds behind Team USA, who broke a new world record with a time of 3:49.63.

To celebrate their success, the team followed McKeown’s idea to have one last jump in the pool – in their full medal ceremony kit.

In poolside interview with Nine News – still soaked from the team’s earlier celebration – McKeown spoke about why she wanted to do it.

“I kind of looked at the pool and I was like, ‘who cares, who knows if this is ever going to happen again’… I thought why not finish off like that?”

Day 9 marks the end of Olympic swimming events in the Paris La Défense Arena, with the final medal table ranking Australia second with 7 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Although the Dolphins are out of the pool, there is more swimming to come as the Aussies prepare for the 10km Open Water events on the 8th and 9th of August.
