Bio

After his international debut at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Jesse Aungles proved he had what it took to become a Paralympian. Aungles won silver at his first international event and followed this by breaking a world record in the Men’s 200m Backstroke (S8) in 2015.

Aungles made his Paralympic debut at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, where he placed eighth in the Men’s 400m Freestyle (S8), seventh in the Men’s 100m Butterfly (S8), seventh in the Men’s 100m Backstroke, and sixth in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (SM8). At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Aungles won gold in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (SM8), followed by a silver medal in the Men’s 100m Backstroke (S8) and a bronze medal in the Men’s 200m Individual Medal (SM8) at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships.

At the Tokyo Paralympics, Aungles placed fourth in the Men’s 100m Backstroke (S8), and the Men’s 100m Breaststroke (SB7).

Paris 2024 was Aungles’ third Paralympic Games – and the Canberra-based swimmer was three times lucky winning his maiden Paralympic medal in the Paris La Defense Arena pool. Aungles went straight to the top with gold in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay 34pts alongside teammates Tim Hodge, Emily Beecroft, Alexa Leary and heat swimmers Callum Simpson and Keira Stephens.
