Bio
Lewis Bishop grew up in Brisbane and started swimming for Rackley Hibiscus in Upper Mount Gravatt. When he was nine, Lewis sustained a leg injury in a boating accident in Papua New Guinea in 2014. He was flown to Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital to undergo surgery, leading to him losing his lower right leg.
While recovering in hospital, Lewis was introduced to three-time paralympic gold medallist, Brenden Hall where the two developed a strong bond. Brenden also had a leg amputation when he was young, and he showed Lewis that he could still have a successful swimming career at the Paralympics.
Five years on from the accident, Lewis won his first national medals, finishing 2nd in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 100m freestyle in 2019. In 2023, Lewis won a bronze in the 200M Medley at the World Para Series which was his first international medal.
In 2024, Lewis was one of the 20 Australians named to travel to Madeira, Portugal for the Para Swimming European Open Championships. Lewis was named for the Paris Paralympic Games at the Australian Swimming Trials, achieving his lifelong dream of going to the Paralympics.
