Full Throssell
Why this triple Olympian is flying business class.
After dedicating over a decade to the Dolphins, Brianna Throssell, who has been described by coach Dean Boxall as the “unsung hero” of the Australian swimming team, is now in pursuit of future acquisitions.
Last week Throssell called time on her competitive swimming career which has included 39 international medals including a Paris relay gold medal.
Western Australia’s most decorated swimmer considered another World Championships in Singapore this year and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2026.
But after Paris gold; a European summer; an engagement to long-time partner Josh Milner and the opportunity to finally put her business degree to further “good use”, Throssell has joined Deloitte’s Mergers and Acquisitions team in Melbourne.
“I just knew it was time… it’s been an incredible journey but now I am ready for a new chapter,” Throssell said.
“The lessons I’ve learned—about perseverance, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence—will remain with me as I move forward but I am ready, and it was so so wonderful to finish the way I did.”
Setting herself up for the future, the 29-year-old holds a Bachelor of Business Management from Swinburne University of Technology and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Notre Dame all while competing under the gold cap.
The Dolphin relay stalwart can also add entrepreneur to her long list of achievements that includes Olympic champion, world record holder and OAM.
In the same year that Throssell won two medals – including a gold – at her debut Commonwealth Games (Gold Coast 2018), the savvy Dolphin turned her champion mindset towards entrepreneurship and established West Coast Dress Hire.
Based in Perth, Throssell’s leading clothing-hire business quickly grew over the course of three years to five employees and catered for 200 women a week nation-wide.
She subsequently sold the business in 2021 as well as claimed the national title in the 200m butterfly, with a time of 2:07.20, which qualified her for her second Olympic Team (Tokyo).
Head Coach Rohan Taylor described Throssell as a “true professional” and said her work ethic was a driver for the Dolphin’s long-term success, particularly in relays.
“Brianna has just contributed so much to this Dolphins swim team. She is a swimmer that just kept pushing and really found a way to get better,” said Taylor.
“She moved from Western Australia to the Sunshine Coast and then to Dean (Boxall) at St Peters and she just worked so hard – her PB for the 100m and 200m free came at the Paris Olympic Trials and that was at the age of 28, it just showed her professionalism and work ethic.”
From Perth to Sunny Coast to Melbourne, Brianna Throssell is proving she is nothing short of committed to the suits that she wears.
