Swimming Australia announces board appointments

Swimming Australia is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Tony Peake to its Board of Directors and the appointment of Jess Hansen as Athlete Director to the Board.

Mr Peake is a highly experienced non-executive director with more than 30 years of board-level experience in the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors specialising in audit, accounting, risk management and management consulting.

A former senior partner at PwC, he served as Managing Partner Melbourne, and as COO of the firm where his responsibilities included finance, treasury, technology, real estate, business services and procurement, while contributing to organisational strategy and execution.

Mr Peake brings a strong track record in governance and risk oversight. He currently serves as a non-executive director of Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited, PeopleIN Limited, Bakers Delight, The Australian Ballet, Greater Western Water, Scanlon Capital, Brencorp Properties and he chairs the Museum of Australian Photography.

Ms Hansen is an Australian Olympian, representing the Dolphins at the Tokyo Olympics and winning multiple medals at World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games.

The Nunawading junior completed a double degree in Exercise and Sport Science and Business (Sport Management) and then transitioned into leadership and athlete advocacy roles within the sporting system including advocating for athletes as a member of the World Aquatics Athletes’ Committee.

This appointment is an important component of Swimming Australia’s  Constitution and ensures the Athlete voice is strengthened and formally represented in the governance of swimming in Australia.

Swimming Australia CEO Rob Woodhouse said the appointments of Mr Peake and Ms Hansen to the Board was a coup for Swimming Australia and that they would make a substantial contribution to Australia’s number one Olympic and Paralympic sport.

“Jess and Tony’s combined wealth of experience in high performance business and sport make them a unanimous choice and perfect fit for Swimming Australia,” he said.
