Trials to return to Sydney Olympic Park in 2027

Swimming Australia has announced the return of the Australian Swimming Trials to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) in 2027 after the success of the 2026 event that finalised team selection for the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships.

The 2027 event will be held at SOPAC from Monday 31 May to Saturday 5 June 2027, supported by the NSW Government through the NSW Office of Sport.

The six-day event will bring Australia’s leading Olympic and Paralympic swimmers together in Sydney as they compete for selection on the Australian Dolphins teams to represent Australia at the 2027 World Aquatics Championships and the 2027 World Para Swimming Championships.

The return to Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre follows the success of the 2026 Australian Swimming Trials, held in Sydney earlier this year, which attracted a record field of more than 900 athletes from almost 200 clubs, more than 12,000 spectators and a national broadcast audience of more than six million.

The team selected from this year’s event went on to post a dominant performance at the Commonwealth Games, securing 44% of Australia’s medals at the event. The able-bodied swim team went on to deliver their most successful Pan Pacific Championships campaign ever, while the Para Pan Pacific Championships team will take to the pool this weekend in California.

The 2026 Trials also delivered significant benefits beyond the pool, contributing an estimated economic impact of more than $7 million and generating more than 23,000 visitor nights for the NSW economy.

Swimming Australia CEO Rob Woodhouse said Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre remained one of the most iconic venues in Australian swimming and an ideal stage for the nation’s best athletes to chase selection for the Dolphins.

“The Australian Swimming Trials is one of the most important events on our calendar, and Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre has a unique place in the story of Australian swimming,” Mr Woodhouse said.

“The 2026 Trials showed what is possible when world-class athletes, passionate clubs, fans, broadcast and government partners come together around a major national event. We are excited to build on that momentum in 2027 as our swimmers race for the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage.”

NSW Minister for Sport, the Hon Stephen Kamper MP, welcomed the announcement and said Trials would again bring Australia’s best swimmers to one of the nation’s premier aquatic venues and support opportunities for local NSW athletes.

“The NSW Government is excited to support the Australian Swimming Trials at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre again in 2027,” Mr Kamper said.

“Bringing the Trials back to Sydney Olympic Park in 2026 was a full-circle moment for Australian swimming, and one we were incredibly proud to support.

“Sydney sports fans can look forward to seeing Australia’s best swimmers back in the pool in 2027, reinforcing our position as the nation’s major sporting events capital.”

The 2027 Australian Swimming Trials will again be broadcast live and free on the Nine Network, showcasing the strength and depth of Australia’s high-performance pathway, with athletes from across the country expected to compete across able-bodied and para swimming events.

Swimming Australia thanks the NSW Government, the NSW Office of Sport and Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre for their continued support of the Australian Swimming Trials and their ongoing commitment to bringing major swimming events to NSW, with the 2026 Australian Short Course Championships also being hosted in Sydney from 29 September to 2 October.
