Bio
Poppy Wilson was born with Cerebral Palsy but was not diagnosed until she was nine months old.
She was referred to a physiotherapist at four months old after she could not hold her head up, her feet were always pointing down and her arms were always pointing behind her back. She could not stand flat on her feet and began to walk when she was 15 months old. Poppy went to occupational therapy when she was two years old to work on her fine motor skills.
In 2016, she was classified as an S10 swimmer and competed in her first short course Australian Nationals. In 2022, Poppy came third in the open water championships and in 2023 she came second in the 400m Freestyle MC at the Australian Swimming Championships.
She made her Australian Dolphins debut in 2023, competing in the World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, placing sixth in the Women’s 400 metre freestyle S10. In 2024, she was awarded a Tier 2 Scholarship within the 2024 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.
Wilson made her Paralympic Games debut in Paris 2024. The 20-year-old placed fifth in the Women’s 100m Butterfly S10 finals, just behind fellow Dolphin Jasmine Greenwood.
