Each year, every Australian Swim Coach Licence is renewed during a national renewal period. Renewing confirms your compliance requirements are current and completes your annual professional learning. It also keeps you recognised as part of Australia’s swim coaching community under the Swimming Australia National Coaching Framework (SANCF).
The renewal period opens on Tuesday 1 December 2026 and closes on Thursday 18 February 2027. Coaches who don’t renew by the closing date will no longer hold a valid licence and won’t be able to coach or access the pool deck at meets and sanctioned events.
Renewing each year keeps our swim coaching community supported, connected and compliant.
What’s involved in Licence Renewal
- When: Tuesday 1 December 2026 to Thursday 18 February 2027
- Cost: $165 annual licence fee. A discount of $70 is available for seasonal coaches.
- Where: Swim Central – Learning and Licencing
- What you’ll need: Any compliance document that you have recently updated and not uploaded to Swim Central yet. This may include a current Working with Children Check, CPR, or your certificate for the Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) Annual Update.
Tip: Start early. The most common hold-up is a compliance document, usually CPR or the SIA Annual Update, that has expired or hasn’t been uploaded correctly. If you sort these out before 1 December, renewing takes minutes.
How to renew your licence
Step 1: Check your licence status in Swim Central
Log in to Swim Central, go to Licences and click on your Australian Swim Coach Licence. You’ll see every document your licence needs with one of three indicators:
- Green: current and verified
- Yellow: missing or expired. This needs your action before you can renew.
- Ready for upload: Simply click the blue “Update” button for a fast and easy upload.
Step 2: Complete the SIA Annual Update
This is the only SIA course you need to complete to renew. Log in to SIA EDGE, using the same account you used for your SIA modules when you activated your licence. Search the course catalogue for Annual Update and complete the course (about 30 minutes). When you’re done, download your certificate from the My Certificates tile.
Step 3: Upload Required Certificates to Swim Central
Check the status of your documents in Swim Central. Any documents not displayed in green may need to be uploaded or updated.
These may include your CPR certificate, Working with Children Check and SIA Annual Update.
Step 4: Enrol, confirm your details and pay
In Swim Central – Learning and Licencing, go to Enrol in a Course. You must select the licence renewal option that matches your current coaching qualifications and licence status from the three options below:
- Australian Swim Coach Licence Renewal ’27 (for coaches who have completed their Development Coaching Course, Advanced Endorsement or Performance Endorsement and have previously activated their Australian Swim Coach Licence)
- Masters Swim Coach Licence Renewal ’27 (for Masters coaches who have previously activated their Australian Swim Coach Licence)
- Progressing to Aus Swim Coach Licence Renewal ’27 (for coaches who activated their licence through Foundation Coach / Swim Squad Fundamentals, Towards Competitive Strokes or Club / Employer Supported but have not yet completed the required Development Coaching Course)
Important: Make sure you select the correct renewal option, as each is designed for a different coaching qualification and licence status.
As part of renewing, you’ll:
- check your personal and contact details are correct
- confirm where you’re coaching (your club, school, swim school or coaching business), so your licence is linked to the right place
- pay the annual fee of $165. If you’re a seasonal coach, apply for your discount before you pay.
Step 5: Complete your renewal modules
There are two eLearning modules that make up your annual professional learning and are part of meeting the minimum annual expectations for your licence. These modules are:
- Coaching Safe Diving in the Daily Training Environment
- Coach Health & Wellbeing
Step 6: Download your renewed licence
Once your documents have been verified and all required learning modules are complete, your licence will be renewed for the next licencing period.
Your licence will remain valid until the expiry date shown in your Swim Central profile, regardless of when you complete your renewal.
Download your digital licence from Swim Central and share it with your club or employer.
Important reminder: Keep an eye on the expiry dates of your required certifications, including CPR and Working with Children Checks. If any of these expire during your licencing period, your licence will be suspended and you may become unlicenced until you upload updated documentation to Swim Central.
