Para Swimming National Flippers Squad Introduction

Online

This online meeting services as a welcome to the Para Swimming National Flippers Squad for all selected athletes, their parents and home coaches. Key members of staff from the Swimming Australia Paralympic Program will be introduced and an overview of the schedule of activities, support provisions and expectations for the Para Swimming National Flippers Squad will be shared.

22^nd-27th Sept 2024

Para Swimming National Flippers Camp

Location: TBC

The camp will include pool and land-based training sessions, off-water workshops, and team building activities. Athletes will gain insight into what it means and what it takes to be a high performance athlete. Swimming Australia will appoint a coaching and performance support team for the camp, and will fund and coordinate all travel, main meals and accommodation for National Flippers Squad athletes to attend.

Paralympic Performance Coach Support

All Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes and coaches have access to knowledge and advice from the Swimming Australia Paralympic Performance Coach, Greg Towle. Support may include individual athlete development planning and monitoring, technical advice, and/or observation of the Daily Performance Environment (DPE). Greg will make contact will all National Development Squad athletes and coaches shortly after acceptance of selection to the Squad to discuss individual support needs. Some Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes and coaches may also be eligible for additional support from Swimming Australia and/or the relevant state or territory institute of sport. Support provisions will be determined based upon individual athlete needs and readiness and will vary from state to state. Additional support provisions may include:

High Performance Hub Integration Experiences

Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes and coaches may be invited to attend testing and/or training opportunities at a Swimming Australia High Performance Hub. Eligible athletes and coaches will be notified by Swimming Australia. If you wish to participate in a High Performance Hub Integration Experience, you may also contact Greg Towle to discuss your eligibility.

International Classification Support

Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes may be nominated for international classification opportunities, including pre-classification screening and advice. On occasion, logistical and travel support to obtain international classification may be available. Eligible athletes will be notified by Swimming Australia.

International Competition Experience

Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes may be invited to participate in select international competition opportunities to further enhance development, obtain international classification, verify potential for high performance success, and/or qualify for key benchmark events. Participation in international competition is subject to international travel restrictions, demonstration of suitable performance standards, and readiness to participate in a travelling team environment. Eligible athletes will be notified by Swimming Australia.

Individual Performance Support

Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes may be eligible for scholarship support from their relevant state or territory institute of sport. This could include periodic access to performance support and/or grant funding. Eligible athletes will be notified by their state or territory institute of sport.

High Performance Transition Support

Para Swimming National Flippers Squad athletes who are demonstrating the potential for transition to the Senior National Team within 12 months may receive Swimming Australia Para Swimming High Performance Transition Support. This support is designed to provide highly individualised assistance to facilitate optimal preparation for team selection and performance at the benchmark event. Support provisions will vary from athlete to athlete and are dependent upon athlete needs and grant funding availability. Eligible athletes and their coaches will be notified by Swimming Australia.
